Piccolo
Lasso directed by Ite O?Donovan, is the junior section of The
Lassus Scholars and caters for young boys and girls aged from nine
to sixteen years. Members of Piccolo Lasso
receive specialised training in sightsinging, notation and theory, vocal
technique, interpretation and repertoire and are individually guided through
the Dublin Choral FoundationTraining
Scheme leading to bronze, silver and gold awards.
In addition to many performances of large
scale works with The Lassus Scholars in the
National Concert Hall and in Adam & Eve's,Piccolo
Lassohave performed much of
the specialist children's repertoire including Faure's Messe Basse,
Britten's Missa Brevis and Britten's Ceremony of Carols.
Piccolo Lasso have also performed contemporary
Irish compositions including Eric Sweeney's Missa Brevis and anthems
by Eric Sweeney and Colin Mawby. Piccolo Lasso have broadcast on RTE television
and radio on numerous occasions.
Members ofPiccolo
Lasso have participated in Opera Ireland productions of Cavalleria
Rusticana, Pagliacci, Boris Godunov, Aida, Carmen, La Boheme
and Queen of Spades in the Gaiety Theatre. In September 2000 the
choir performed in the ESB Dublin Jazz Week and delighted many
Dubliners with their outdoor performance for Dublin Car-Free Day
in 2000 and 2001. Piccolo Lasso represented
Ireland (with The Lassus Scholars) at the
29th Pueri Cantores International Congress in Barcelona in 1998, Lyon in 2002, Essen and Cologne 2004 and Krakow in 2007.They performed Eric Sweeney's Missa Brevis in Westminster Cathedral in October 2008. They will travel to Stockholm in 2009.
